While numerous states have legalized marijuana for medical and recreational use, without significant ill effect, the federal government maintains its blanket ban on cannabis. Repeal of the federal ban is long overdue. Congress must repeal all laws outlawing marijuana. This will leave it up to each of the states to determine its own policy on the matter.

We can understand why Big Pharma doesn’t want people to be able to grow medications in their back yard. We can understand why petrochemical corporations don’t want competition from the natural fibers derived from cannabis (hemp).

But what justification exists for the U.S. Congress to take the side of Big Business against the interests of the American people? In this, and in many areas of public policy, Congress takes the side of the rich and powerful against the people. This is what “The Swamp” is all about: transferring wealth and power from the people to the ruling elite.

The people must send representatives to Congress who will not be corrupted by the swamp. If the people continue to shirk their responsibilities in demanding that their representatives work for the common interests of the people, the U.S. will continue its slide into a dystopian future.

If elected to Congress, I will work to repeal the federal prohibition of cannabis.
